Every year See Change roll out a month-long national Green Ribbon Campaign to encourage people in Ireland to end Mental Health Stigma. October 2020 is Green Ribbon month.
The campaign aims to get as many people as possible talking about mental health. The aim is to help end stigma and discrimination.
This year’s overarching theme is Discrimination. What is the language of mental health stigma? How does stigma feel? Where does stigma occur and what we can do to reduce it?
What can you do to support Green Ribbon?
Wear the Green Ribbon: it’s an international symbol for mental health awareness. By wearing one you show you are committed to influencing positive change.
You can pick up a Green Ribbon throughout October at your nearby Boots Stores, Eir Stores and AIB branches or order online on SeeChange.ie. Wear it as a symbol for starting a conversation about mental health. Keep an eye out for green ribbons in your local community.
Ask and Listen: You don’t need to be an expert to start talking about mental health nor do you need to have all the answers. Sometimes the most helpful thing to do is to let someone know you are there for them and simply listen. By wearing the ribbon, you let people know that you’re open to having a conversation about mental health.
Support on Social Media: Download supporter resources here including online templates, posters, widgets and printables. There’s also plenty of tips on opening up a conversation around mental health. Follow the hashtags and display your Green Ribbon across your social media.
