Cork based Exigent take a stance against Suicide & raise over €13,000
Cork based network design, implementation & management providers, Exigent Networks, showed their support for the formation of a Suicide Prevention Authority when they recently presented a cheque for over €13,000 to 3TS. The total raised was the result of a year long fundraising campaign which saw the team at Exigent Networks undertake a series of fundraising initiatives ranging from mountain climbs of Carrantuohill & Ben Nevis, to participation in the Cork City Marathon and shopping centre bucket collections in the Cork area.
Staff & management joined forces and gave up so much of their free time to support their chosen Charity of the Year, the 3Ts, not only in fundraising, but to raise awareness of the issue of suicide in Ireland and to garner public support for the 3TS’ campaign for a Suicide Prevention Authority via a petition and a successful Twitter campaign. The team really put time, effort and imagination into their efforts over the course of the year and it certainly paid dividends, both in terms of the sum raised and also in soliciting over 1100 signatures for the 3Ts suicide authority petition.
Management and staff both felt benefits to their regular working practice as a result of their charitable endeavours, with enhanced teamwork & bonding opportunities.
Exigent Networks chose the 3TS charity based on its current work in the suicide prevention sector and specifically for its campaign for the formation of a Suicide Prevention Authority.
“The devastating effects of suicide are very much in evidence in practically every community and business sector in Ireland” according to Cillian McCarthy, Director, Exigent Networks.
“Our key reason for choosing 3TS was their current petition to Government for the formation of a Suicide Prevention Authority. We share their belief that only a co-ordinated Suicide Prevention Authority akin to the Road Safety Authority can effectively address the issue of suicide and tackle the number of needless deaths by suicide each year. We would urge everyone to sign their petition on www.3ts.ie We would also like to thank everyone who got behind us during the last year – team members and supporters alike. Working together on a shared interest outside of our core work was of considerable benefit to all involved and we look forward to a new challenge again this year”.
Founder of 3Ts, Noel Smyth, said: “We are extremely grateful to Exigent Networks for their generosity and would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the team for their goodwill and support for the formation of a Suicide Prevention Authority.
Activities such as these are important to Irish society as whilst raising much needed funds for suicide prevention, they also raise awareness of the issue of suicide in Ireland and demonstrate the support available within Ireland’s business community.”
3Ts Manager, Lise Alford, added: “Myself & Sara in the office were blown away by the level of enthusiasm and the hard work put in by the staff and management at Exigent. We would like to thank in particular, Leigh-Ann Carol, who was our main point of contact over the year. Leigh-Ann had a great appetite for hard work and a real can-do attitude. She’s a social media and marketing whizz and applied these skills to ensuring that Exigent made a real difference to their chosen charity. Her infectious enthusiasm caught on with the staff and directors, and encouraged members of the team to bring their own particular skills to the initiative. Our thanks to to directors, Paul Casey, Cillian McCarthy & Rob Norton, for both leading and supporting their team throughout the year and for helping to make this a very successful initiative for 3Ts.”
