2009 Grass Roots Golf - Entry Fee was only €10!!
Under the patronage of Padraig, the annual 3TS All Ireland Golf Tournament is now in its sixth year. This national golf tournament was first launched in 2003 by 3Ts as a means of raising awareness and funding for suicide prevention in Ireland.
Since its inception the tournament has been supported by Padraig Harrington, Paul McGinley and Darren Clarke. We are delighted this year also to have the support of Rory McIlroy. The tournament has also been very well received by Irish golfers with 8,000 - 12,000 golfers participating at club level annually from GUI clubs nationwide.
Commenting on the launch of the tournament, Joe MacAvin, 3TS Golf Tournament Co-ordinator said:
“This is one of the key annual fundraising events for the 3TS and we are increasingly delighted every year with the interest and response from clubs around the country. We are also very proud of the fact that four of Ireland 's top golfers are willing to lend their time to supporting the tournament. The money raised from the tournament goes toward funding crucial projects to build the 3TS Awareness Campaign for action, intervention and prevention of suicide at all levels of our society.”
Competition Format:
The competition is played stableford, two scores to count, full handicaps. The team format for 2009 was Club Captain, winner of Men's Competition, winner of Ladies Competition and PGA Professional (see note below). Lady Captain and Mens’ Captain play alternate years and 2009 was the year for the Men's Captain.
The event is open to every GUI golf club in Ireland, regardless of size or whether they have a professional (see note below), and can be run in conjunction with an existing event or as a new competition.
**Closing Date for Entries for 2009 was Monday, 27th July**
We have received a great response to the tournament in previous years and this year clubs throughout the country will proceed to the regional qualifying rounds. In mid August, the PGA notify each club directly of the provincial qualifier venue and tee off time at one of the following venues:
| Tuesday 1st September |
St Margaret’s Golf & Country Club |
– Dublin |
| Thursday 3rd September |
County Tipperary Golf & Country Club |
– Dundrum House |
| Thursday 10th September |
Slieve Russell Hotel Golf & Country Club |
– Co Cavan |
Winners of these qualifying events proceed to the National Final to be held
on the 12th October
at the K Club. The international final will be in La Cala Mjias, Southern Spain, in November.
Remember:
- It can be run in conjunction with a Club competition;
- It does not have to be a separate event;
- All these competitions are played stableford, two scores to count, full handicaps.
- The entry fee is €10 for each participant;
- This year the team will consist of:
- Men's Captain
- Club Professional
- Winner of Men's Competition
- Winner of Ladies Competition
Clubs must enter the competition on the official entry form and all participants must pay the €10 entry fee. At clubs where there is no PGA professional, an officer or committee member can be nominated to play with the Men's Captain and the two qualifying members. This member must also have participated in the club competition and have paid the entry fee. All entrants must be 18 years or over.
Competitors at each regional final are provided with a meal at the venue. A prize fund will be played for by Professionals who play in the Regional Qualifying rounds and to the leading Professionals in the Final at the K Club based solely on team scoring. The winning team are invited to play in Spain.
3Ts is a Registered Charity (No. CHY15710) and entry fees will contribute to the 3Ts Projects.
